- The country is already awash in guns. It is questionable whether a few million less or more will make much of a difference.
- Any attempt to address the existing gun inventory will either be prohibitively expensive or run afoul of gun owners’ reasonable right to privacy (or both).
- Republicans at the national level are so infatuated with gun ownership that they won’t even support measures to keep guns out of the hands of potential terrorists.
As a result, the field in which gun control advocates can make headway is fairly limited. This will be discussed tomorrow.
