Tech barons famously believe in moving fast and breaking things. That makes them natural allies of Trump, who wrecks everything he touches. Restoring order is a job for lesser people.
The tech ethic works fine if the items that are broken belong to the barons and their business associates. But what right do they have to cause harm to the rest of us? We never gave our consent; it was never even requested.
The bottom line here is that the Pottery Barn rule should apply to AI. Right now, it clearly doesn’t.
