On Donalds and Ramaswamy

Both Byron Donalds and Vivek Ramaswamy are running for governor in red states that used to be purple. Both have successfully curried favor with Trump. Both start the campaign with large advantages in funding and endorsements. Will it be enough for them to prevail?

They have significant disadvantages, too. Both of them are ethnic minorities who are despised by the racist elements of the right. Ramaswamy is also a Hindu, and he has, if possible, an even more grating personality than Ron DeSantis; he is condescending and dismissive of struggling American workers, many of whom, he seems to think, should be replaced by hardworking Indians.

Will the combination of racism and Trump’s unpopularity doom them in November? TBD.
