On the Republican Paradox

The base hears Trump’s promises on mass deportations, tariffs, and the Ukraine war and expects him to deliver. A substantial portion of the GOP vote, on the other hand, is based on the belief that he won’t do what he says he will do. These voters are trusting him to bring back the economy of 2019 based on past performance, not policy proposals.

One of these groups is going to be extremely disappointed if he wins. My money is on the latter. Trump’s ideas on many issues change like the weather, but on tariffs, deportations, and Ukraine, he should be taken both seriously and literally.
